Deep tissue massage is similar to Swedish (Relaxation) Massage in that it focuses on setting a rhythm and using flowing strokes to apply pressure to muscles throughout the whole body. Deep tissue massage uses more pressure to push deeper into the muscle. This added pressure can be a little uncomfortable for some but is often described as a “good pain” by fans of the technique. This added edge enhances the therapeutic benefits of the massage, reduces tension throughout the body and helps patients recover from exercise and injuries. The overall effect of the deep tissue massage is a relaxing, whole-body treatment.
The main focus of a relaxation massage is to de-stress, calm and relax the mind and body. It’s a less specific form of physical therapy than remedial massage in regards to pain relief, but is still very therapeutic especially with the busy lives we live today, as it is great at relieving the stress that is held in the body and the mind. This massage style aids with your mental and emotional health, as it calms the mind and settles the nervous system. Relaxation massage provides a general loosen up, encourages blood flow throughout the body, and helps boost the immune system by stimulating the lymphatics. Relaxation massage is great for people who’ve had a stressful week/month, as it allows the body to catch up and recharge. A relaxation massage treatment will usually involve flowing strokes and kneading, performed at your chosen pressure. It’s a pain free therapy and an effective way to de-stress and relax the mind and body.
The intention in remedial massage is to ‘remedy’ the body. This style of massage holistically looks at the entire body, with its focus being treating pain, structural dysfunctions and helping in injury rehabilitation. Remedial massage therapists use assessments and tests to find out what structures are causing your pain or your postural dysfunction. Usually muscular pain such as low back pain, is caused by either weak muscles, overactive muscles or compensating muscles. Once the remedial therapist has found the cause of your pain/discomfort, the massage will then be focused around treating the muscles that are causing the pain in your body. Therefore remedial massage is specifically tailored to each individual unlike most relaxation massages. A remedial massage will involve a variety of techniques, targeting specific muscle groups.

Cupping is an ancient healing therapy that some people use to ease pain. A provider places cups on your back, stomach, arms, legs or other parts of your body. Inside the cup, a vacuum or suction force pulls skin upward. Cupping is a form of traditional Chinese medicine. Suction from cupping draws fluid into the treated area. This suction force expands and breaks open tiny blood vessels (capillaries) under the skin. Your body treats the cupping area like an injury. It sends more blood to the area to stimulate the natural healing process. Some people theorize that cupping clears the pores and releases toxins. It can cause severe bruising and can be little painful over the next day or two.
Reflexology is a type of therapy that involves applying different amounts of gentle pressure on specific points along your feet (and possibly on your hands or ears as well) to help you feel better. The theory is that this eases stress, and that helps your body work better. It's based on a theory that these body parts are connected to certain organs and body systems. It's also known as zone therapy.
Ear candles are hollow cone candles made of wax-covered fabric. The pointed end is placed in your ear while the other end is lit. The warm “suction” is believed to remove earwax, improve hearing, and treat conditions like sinus infections and colds.
A hot stone massage is a type of massage that applies hot stones to your body. During the treatment, smooth, flat, heated stones are used on specific points while giving the massage. These stones are usually basalt stones that are heated between 130 and 145 degrees, depending on the area of the body it is placed.
